Communication member of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Ellen Ama Daaku, said she expected the Minister for Foreign Affairs, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, to resign from his role following a vow he made while in opposition over the use of private jets by government officials.

During discussions over the purchase of a state presidential jet under the previous administration, Mr. Ablakwa, who led the campaign against the move, reportedly pledged to vacate his role if an official of his government embarked on an official visit using a private jet.

They include Vice President Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang and President John Mahama.

Touching on the matter, Madam Daaku blasted the minister for his double standards, noting that his current posture contradicts his earlier opposition to the purchase of a state presidential jet.

“He said any member of the NDC leaders who will take a private jet, he will resign with whichever post given to him,” she said.

Madam Daaku added, “Vice President was last year sent abroad on a private jet due to health concerns, there seems nothing wrong with it for Ablakwa, I expected him to resign.”

She hinted that during the erstwhile NPP administration, Ablakwa made disparaging remarks about former President Nana Akufo-Addo when he travelled on a private jet.
