The President of the Western Regional House of Chiefs, HRM Nana Kobina Nketia V, has admonished students in the region to eschew all forms of negative acts that would jeopardise their future aspirations.

According to him, students must focus on their education and refrain from indulging in nefarious acts to enable them to become useful citizens and contribute meaningfully to nation-building.

Nana Kobina Nketia V, who is also the Paramount Chief of Essikado Traditional Area, made these remarks when he chaired the 2026 eleventh edition of the annual Western Regional Inter-District Basic Schools Independence Day Quiz Competition held at Agona Nkwanta in the Ahanta West Municipal of the Western Region on Friday, 13 March 2026.

Peace International School from Half Assini in the Jomoro Municipal emerged as champions of the competition with 65 points to beat Tarkwa Goldfields School Complex with 43 points, with Wood Bridge Academy from EKMA securing 32 points to place third.

The quiz event forms part of the region’s Independence Day celebration activities initiated and promoted by the traditional leadership of the Western Region, which featured fourteen schools representing their respective municipalities and districts.

The competition, which was climaxed with a durbar of paramount and divisional chiefs, educationists, security heads, clergy, and corporate organisations, had questions covering the pre and post-colonial era, pre and post-independence era, environment, chieftaincy and tradition, mathematics, science, and current affairs.
