Former Member of Parliament (MP) for Amenfi Central, Peter Kwakye-Ackah, has identified inadequate job opportunities as the primary issue the country is currently grappling with.

Speaking on ‘Anɔpa Bɔfoɔ’ morning show on Tuesday, March 17, 2026, he stated that the shortage of jobs is a major factor contributing to the recruitment challenges at the security services.

“That recruitment exercise, I said that the only thing that can solve this recurrent problem is job creation,” he asserted.

He stressed that the lack of jobs is the primary issue in the country, with over 50,000 applicants competing for just 5,000 positions in the security service recruitment.

Mr. Kwakye-Ackah suggested that the government should shift its focus from merely building infrastructure to prioritizing job creation for the youth.

“I will urge the government to note that roads, schools, and hospitals are very good, but if we are not able to create jobs, it will affect our fortunes,” he emphasized.

He highlighted that after stabilizing the economy for a year, the government should dedicate the following year to fostering job creation.

He added that security recruitment should begin in schools, specifically the cadet corps, allowing interested candidates to be recruited directly from the student population, thus making it easier to fulfill the 5,000 positions needed.
