Female artistes need more recognition – Sefa
Share on FacebookShare on Twitter

Ghanaian music star, Sefa, has urged stakeholders in the music industry to increase support and recognition for female artistes.

During an interview, Sefa acknowledged that although there has been some improvement over the years, more effort is needed to elevate women in the industry.

“Now the support in the industry is okay as compared to before. I think there’s more we can do as an industry because my sisters in the industry are all doing amazing, so if the light is thrown on us more, we will be able to achieve more,” she said.

She noted that while both male and female artistes are making significant progress, the opposite gender continues to receive more attention.

Highlighting an example, Sefa mentioned a concert by Wendy Shay, which she believes did not get the recognition it deserved.

“Wendy Shay hosted a show at Weija last year, and it was incredible, but I didn’t hear people talking about it as much as they would if it were a male artiste,” she stated.

Sefa further encouraged industry players and fans to actively promote female talents locally instead of waiting for international validation.

“If we can help each other, it will be great because we can’t let people from other places praise us while we can’t praise ourselves,” she added.
