Assistant Chief Fire Officer (AFCO) of the Greater Accra Regional Fire Service, Rashid Kwame Nisawu, has stated that the Ghana National Fire Service is submitting all cases of assault on its personnel nationwide to the Ghana Police Service for prosecution.

This follows recent attacks on fire officers by civilians, including incidents at Kasoa and Adjirigano.

Speaking to the media, he emphasised that the police have agreed to take on the cases and prosecute all those involved, noting that the rate at which such incidents have been occurring is alarming.

“We are compiling the list of attacks that has occurred on firemen and the police administration have decided to take it on and prosecute them one by one,” he stated.

He pointed out that police cases do not expire, as long as a case is reported, action can be taken at any time, no matter how long ago the incident occurred.

He noted that the person involved in the Adjirigano incident has been granted bail for now but will still be prosecuted when the time comes.

“Per the laws of Ghana every offence is bailable in Ghana, so far as they have bailed you doesn’t mean anything the case is still on trial it is purely criminal because if you see why they attack Fire Service.

“A fireman to move from Weija to Kasoa in the Central region to survey the situation, and he is under attack, it is not a good story,” he said.

He further assured that the Director General of the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) of the Ghana Police Service will commence investigation and all victims involved in assault cases across the country will soon be arrested and prosecuted.
