Korle Bu Teaching Hospital says viral ‘patients on floor’ video could be AI-generated
Share on FacebookShare on Twitter

Korle Bu Teaching Hospital has issued a statement regarding a viral video showing five patients allegedly receiving care on the floor of its Accident & Emergency (A&E) Centre.

The management said it cannot confirm the video’s authenticity due to advancements in Artificial Intelligence (AI) that can generate manipulated footage, and it is investigating the claim to establish its accuracy.

The hospital acknowledged an unprecedented surge in emergency cases over the past two weeks, exceeding the A&E unit’s capacity.

Due to ethical obligations not to turn away critically ill patients, some were temporarily seated on chairs while awaiting beds.

The hospital emphasized that it does not condone providing care on the floor under any circumstances.

To address bed shortages, management has taken urgent steps, including procuring and distributing 200 beds across departments to replace damaged ones and prevent future shortages. Additional beds are also being sourced to ensure adequate reserves.

The hospital noted that it is strengthening collaborations with the National Ambulance Service, Ghana Health Service, and private health practitioners to improve patient referrals and safety.
