GES releases 2026/2027 academic calendar for Basic Schools

The Educate Africa Institute (EAI) has called on the Ministry of Education and Ghana Education Service (GES) to replace the current Career Day in basic schools with a Skills and Talent Exhibition Day.

In a statement signed by the ExecutiveDirector, Williams Boadi, the organization argued that Career Day has become outdated and restrictive, focusing on a narrow set of professions and failing to inspire creativity and diversity in career aspirations.

EAI proposed a more practical approach, including mentorship programs, hands-on skills demonstrations, and internship opportunities to nurture innovation, self-reliance, and problem-solving abilities among pupils.

The institute believes this shift is crucial for producing a generation of self-employed graduates, job creators, and solution-driven citizens.

The call comes amid concerns that the current system contributes to graduate unemployment and fails to equip students with skills for a dynamic global economy.

EAI further emphasized the need for bold reform to raise patriotic, results-oriented citizens who drive national development.
