The Technical Advisor to the Minister of Education, Prof. George Kweku Toku Oduro, has commended Takoradi Technical University (TTU) for making history by graduating the first deaf student at the master’s degree level among technical universities in Ghana.

Delivering a speech on behalf of the Minister of Education, Haruna Iddrisu, during the university’s 26th Special Congregation Ceremony, Prof. Oduro described the achievement as a significant milestone reflecting resilience and the institution’s commitment to inclusive education.

He noted that the milestone demonstrates TTU’s dedication to ensuring higher education remains accessible to all, especially persons with disabilities, and added that government policies such as free tertiary education for persons with disabilities continue to promote equity.

Prof. Oduro also highlighted the growing role of technology in education, stating that digital transformation and artificial intelligence are reshaping sectors including education, healthcare, agriculture, governance and commerce.

He emphasised that education remains the cornerstone of national development and urged technical universities to embrace innovation to equip students with the skills required for the global economy.

He said the Ministry of Education continues to prioritise Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET), focusing on integrating technology into teaching and learning.

However, he acknowledged challenges such as limited infrastructure, poor connectivity and gaps in digital resources, calling for stronger collaboration among stakeholders to address them.

Meanwhile, the Vice‑Chancellor of Takoradi Technical University, Rev. Prof. John Frank Eshun, revealed that a total of 2,280 students graduated during the 2024/2025 academic year, comprising 44 Master of Technology and 2,236 Bachelor of Technology graduates.

The Vice Chancellor reiterated the university’s commitment to inclusive education, noting that about 173 students with disabilities have benefited from support programmes since 2018.

He added that scholarships, partnerships and assistive learning facilities, including a modern reading room and sign‑language training, have enhanced accessibility.

Rev. Prof. Eshun further indicated that TTU continues to expand its academic programmes, with new courses and plans to introduce postgraduate studies across faculties, and highlighted growing research collaborations with local and international institutions to strengthen innovation and capacity.

The Chairman of the Governing Council of Takoradi Technical University, Ing. Prof. Christian Kwaku Amuzuvi, described the occasion as a moment of pride and celebration.

He congratulated the graduates for their hard work and perseverance, urging them to use the knowledge and skills they have acquired to drive innovation, create opportunities and contribute to national development.

Prof. Amuzuvi encouraged them to uphold values of integrity, discipline and service, and to remain connected to the university through its alumni network.

He also commended the university’s management, faculty and staff for their dedication, as well as parents and guardians for their support.
