The Minister for Government Communications, Felix Kwakye Ofosu, has announced that President Mahama will launch the Free Primary Health Care Programme, a key campaign promise on April 15, 2026.

The programme aims to ensure universal healthcare for Ghanaians, targeting 35% of the population not covered by the National Health Insurance Scheme.

In a Facebook post on Friday, April 3, Mr. Kwakye Ofosu revealed he spent Good Friday with Health Minister, Kwabena Mintah Akandoh inspecting 24,534 pieces of medical equipment slated for distribution to health facilities nationwide next week to support the programme.

The equipment includes:

1. X-ray machines
2. Vital sign monitors (blood pressure, temperature, etc.)
3. Glucometers for diabetes screening
4. Baby incubators, radiant warmers, and oxygen concentrators for newborn resuscitation
