Former Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta has reportedly been released from the custody of the United States Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE).

According to the solicitor of the embattled former government appointee, Mr. Ofori-Atta is no longer in custody.

Mr. Ofori-Atta had reportedly been in ICE custody since early January after his arrest in the United States over issues relating to his immigration status.

He is believed to have been picked up by ICE officials in January 2026 in the Virginia area, with his legal team later confirming that the detention was linked to the legality of his stay in the country.

Subsequently, he was held at an ICE detention facility in Virginia, where he remained for several weeks as legal processes, including immigration proceedings and an extradition request from Ghana, unfolded.

However, in a statement issued on Wednesday, April 8, it was announced that Mr. Ofori-Atta was released from ICE detention pursuant to a judicial order.

“He is home with his family,” the statement signed by the Solicitor of Mr. Ofori-Atta, Justice Kusi Minkah Premo, ESQ, reads.
