The Ministry of Gender, Children, and Social Protection has announced plans to provide an extended psychological support to families of victims of the Volta Lake boat accident in the East Gonja District of the Savannah Region.
The sector has directed the Department of Social Welfare to lead immediate engagement with families affected by the tragedy and offer them the necessary psychosocial assistance.
In a statement, the Ministry affirmed its commitment to ensuring that affected and vulnerable families receive the necessary care, protection, and assistance in times of crisis to mitigate the impact of this tragedy.
The Minister of Gender, Dr. Agnes Naa Momo Lartey, emphasized the need for urgency in adhering to safety protocols in water transportation to prevent future occurrences.
Ms. Lartey also expressed deep sorrow over the incident, which claimed several lives, including women and children.
