The Ghana Football Association (GFA) has stated that security arrangements for clubs traveling for matches will be reviewed and strengthened.

The FA noted that undertaking such an exercise will be crucial to preventing future tragedies involving teams.

The GFA made this commitment following the tragedy that struck the football community after a Berekum Chelsea player lost his life in an armed robbery ambush while returning from a league game.

The incident occurred on the evening of Sunday, April 12, 2026, between Ahyiresu on the Bibiani-Goaso stretch.

In a statement of condolences, the GFA emphasized the need to re-strategize and strengthen security arrangements for the safety of clubs.

“Furthermore, the GFA will engage key stakeholders to review and strengthen security arrangements for clubs traveling for domestic competitions to prevent such tragic occurrences in the future,” the FA said in a statement.

It expressed condolences to the affected club, families, and the football fraternity, rallying behind them in times of difficulty.
