The Ghana Highway Authority has announced that urgent repair works will be carried out on the Dzorwulu Footbridge following damage caused by a lowbed truck earlier this year.
In a statement issued by the Authority, an emergency inspection conducted in February 2026 revealed that although the bridge did not collapse, it sustained minor structural damage, leading to a slight shift in its superstructure.
According to the statement, this condition presents potential safety risks to both pedestrians and motorists if not addressed promptly.

“As a precautionary measure, the Ghana Highway Authority will implement controlled access to the bridge while urgent repair works are undertaken,” the statement said.
The Authority explained that the repair works will focus on fixing the damaged sections, rehabilitating the walking surface, and strengthening key safety components such as handrails.
The statement further indicated that the repair exercise is scheduled to take place from April 18 to April 24, 2026, and is expected to be completed within a week to minimise disruption to traffic.
In addition to the repairs, the Authority said it is introducing preventive measures to avoid similar incidents in the future, including the installation of height restriction signage and enhanced monitoring of over-height vehicles.
“The Ghana Highway Authority assures the public of its commitment to maintaining safe and reliable infrastructure and urges all road users to adhere to traffic regulations, especially those relating to vehicle height restrictions,” the statement added.
The Authority also apologised for any inconvenience caused and appealed to the public for cooperation during the repair period.
