Shoddy work on 24-hour economy market projects won’t be tolerated – Ahmed Ibrahim

The Minister for Local Government, Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs, Ahmed Ibrahim, has issued a strong warning to contractors working on the government’s 24-Hour Economy Model Market programme.

He stressed that shoddy work, delays, and disregard for specifications will not be tolerated.

The caution comes as construction begins on new markets in Bimbilla (Nanumba North) and Kukuo (Tamale South) under the Resetting Ghana Tour and decentralised development agenda.

The minister emphasised that the projects are strategic national investments and must meet strict “quality standards, timelines, and cost controls, warning that non-compliance could lead to sanctions, including contract termination.”

He noted that monitoring systems across all MMDAs have been strengthened to ensure strict supervision and protect public resources.

The 24-hour economy market programme, being rolled out across all 261 MMDAs with 16 in the Northern Region aims to boost continuous economic activity, improve infrastructure, and expand opportunities for traders, farmers, and small businesses.

The initiative forms part of the government’s broader effort to enhance local economies, improve sanitation, and deepen accountability through the Accounting to the People Forum under the Resetting Ghana Tour.
