The Eastern Regional Police Command has arrested three suspects in connection with the unlawful possession of narcotics and an attempted GH¢100,000 bribery scheme following an intelligence-led operation in Akosombo-Bonya.

According to a police statement issued on May 11, 2026, the operation led to the seizure of 6,400 parcels of suspected Indian hemp.

Police said the Regional Police Intelligence Department (RPID) acted on a tip-off on Sunday, May 10, regarding narcotics allegedly stored in Akosombo-Bonya.

During a surveillance operation near Krobɔ Girls Senior High School, officers intercepted a Hyundai Rhino truck with registration number GR 5724-15 and tracked it to a secluded location near Atua Government Hospital.

The statement said police officers moved in when the suspects were transferring sacks from the Hyundai truck into a Howo Zonda tipper truck with registration number GN 7948-21. Although the initial group of suspects fled into nearby bushes, police secured both vehicles and the narcotics consignment.

Police identified one of the suspects as Solomon Tettey, a 39-year-old welder and resident of Atua, who later approached officers and claimed ownership of both vehicles and the seized consignment, which he allegedly said was being transported to Nigeria.

According to the statement, Solomon Tettey allegedly attempted to compromise the investigation by offering officers a GH¢100,000 bribe.

Police said officers feigned interest to secure evidence, after which the suspect transferred GH¢90,000 through Mobile Money and handed over an additional GH¢10,000 in cash.

Following receipt of the money, officers from the Regional Counter-Terrorism Unit and the Odumase Police assisted in arresting Solomon Tettey.

Police said two additional suspects, identified as Joshua Nartey and Teye Nartey, were later arrested after reporting to the Regional Headquarters.

The suspects and all exhibits have been handed over to the Regional Criminal Investigation Department for further investigations and processing.
