Landlords across Ghana will soon be required to register their tenancy agreements with Rent Control within 14 days, Acting Rent Commissioner Frederick Opoku has announced.

He described it as a mandatory tenancy agreement requirement to ensure that all rent issues within the sector are properly documented.

In an interview with Ohemaa Sakyiwaa on Angel TV, the Acting Commissioner admitted that currently there is no implementation of such laws to ensure regulation.

“I’m invoking section 4 of the PNDC Law 138 (1996) which states that every landlord in the country must register your tenancy agreement with Rent Control within 14 days,” he said, noting that this includes some five laws to be invoked as part of the reforms.

He noted that this could prove very instrumental to the reforms, assuring that both landlords and tenants will be satisfied.

“We cannot continue to be doing the old things and expect new results,” the Commissioner asserted on Wednesday, May 13, 2026.

Mr. Opoku indicated that Rent Control, as an institution, must be the hub of all rent-related matters.
