The Minister of Sports and Recreation, Kofi Adams, has stated that he would have included André Ayew in the yet-to-be-named Black Stars squad for the 2026 World Cup if he were the head coach of the team.
According to him, Ayew’s pedigree and experience make him an ideal candidate for selection.
The 36-year-old NAC Breda player has been absent from the national team since the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations in the Ivory Coast, where Ghana failed to qualify from the group stage.
Speaking ahead of the expected squad list from coach Carlos Queiroz in the coming weeks, the minister noted that although he is not the coach in the capacity of player selection, Ayew’s addition would be instrumental.

“I don’t think it is a bad idea if Andre Ayew is named in the World Cup squad. I don’t know the coach’s plan or strategy, but if I were the coach and I had a player with the calibre of Andre Ayew, why not?” the Buem MP said on Adom TV’s Fire for Fire.
Ghana has been drawn in Group L for the tournament, where they will face England, Croatia, and Panama. They will begin their campaign on June 17 against Panama, followed by England on June 23 and Croatia on June 27.
They will gear up for preparations with friendly matches against Mexico later this month and Wales on June 2.
