Afigya Sekyere East: NPP member seeks injunction against constituency election album process
Share on FacebookShare on Twitter

A member of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Afigya Sekyere East Constituency has filed a suit at the Kumasi High Court seeking to halt the ongoing data entry and validation process of the party’s Polling Station Executive Album over alleged violations of party guidelines.

The plaintiff, Adu Mensah, a polling station coordinator with vested interest in the constituency’s electoral processes, is asking the court to grant an interlocutory injunction restraining party officials from continuing with the exercise until the final determination of the case.

Named as defendants in the suit are the NPP General Secretary, Justin Frimpong Kodua; Dr. Samuel Afriyie, identified as the party’s regional representative in the Afigya Sekyere East Constituency; Ibrahim Mohammed, Constituency Chairman; Ernest Ofori Frimpong-Manso, Research and Election Officer and MP’s representative; and Bernard Annor, the constituency IT Officer.

According to court documents filed before the High Court of Justice in Kumasi, the plaintiff alleges that the defendants prepared the polling station executive album in a manner inconsistent with the party’s established guidelines.

The suit further claims that unqualified persons were included in the album, while due procedures and stakeholder consultations were allegedly bypassed during the preparation and validation process.

Adu Mensah contends that the actions of the defendants could undermine his right to participate fully in the party’s internal electoral processes and may ultimately affect the credibility of constituency elections.

As part of the reliefs being sought, the plaintiff is requesting a declaration that the current album preparation exercise is null and void. He is also seeking an order compelling the defendants to comply strictly with the New Patriotic Party’s guidelines and prepare a new album containing only qualified persons.

In the accompanying affidavit in support of the interlocutory injunction application, the plaintiff argues that the court’s intervention is necessary to prevent further harm and protect the integrity of the electoral process within the constituency.

The application states that unless restrained by the court, the defendants may continue with the validation and data entry exercise, potentially causing irreparable damage before the substantive matter is determined.

Under the rules governing the writ, the defendants are expected to enter an appearance within eight days after service of the process or risk judgement being entered in their absence.
