Akufo-Addo’s ‘prophecy’ that dumsor would be Mahama’s legacy vindicated – Former NPA boss

Former Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the National Petroleum Authority (NPA), Mustapha Abdul-Hamid, says former President Akufo-Addo is vindicated about his prophecy that President John Mahama will forever be remembered for intermittent power outages, commonly referred to as ‘Dumsor,’ in the country.

He noted that what turned out to be a prophecy at the time has now come to pass.

In a one-on-one interview with Ohemaa Sakyiwaa on Angel TV on Thursday, May 21, Mustapha Hamid stated that the Mahama administration of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) has underperformed, falling short in every sector, with the energy sector being no exception, leading to nationwide power outages.

He hinted that this development makes Akufo-Addo innocent of the public statement that Mr. Mahama’s legacy among former statesmen of Ghana will only be credited with “Dumsor” and nothing exceptional.

“Do you remember when President Akufo-Addo once stated that every former President, when mentioned, is associated with something common? He said J.J. Rawlings is known for his era of Ghana’s transition to democratic governance, J.A. Kufuor is also known for the implementation of the Free NHIS, and then himself, Akufo-Addo, for the Free SHS. Then he asked what Mahama could be remembered for, and the whole crowd shouted ‘Dumsor, Dumsor.’

“Today, the very prophecy Akufo-Addo gave has truly come into reality; now we are back to Dumsor, which they attribute to transformer replacements, mice chewing cables in Ashaiman, snakes taking over transformers in Kumasi, and a host of excuses each passing day,” said Mustapha Hamid.

In his view, these, coupled with other national issues, are just an indication that the Mahama-led NDC government, during its 18 months in office, has failed, and he would score them four out of ten if he were to assess them.
