GoldBod Mining Support Programme gets community backing in Funsi
Share on FacebookShare on Twitter

Residents of Funsi and nearby communities have thrown their support behind the Ghana Gold Board’s Mining Support Programme, saying the initiative promises jobs, responsible mining, and economic change.

The endorsement followed a stakeholder engagement at Duu in the Wa East District, where officials from GoldBod and the Ghana Geological Survey Authority met traditional leaders, assembly members, and residents in the mineralised zone.

The meeting focused on the proposed programme and ongoing geological survey work.

Ahead of the community session, the GoldBod delegation paid a courtesy call on Wa East District Chief Executive Shaibu Adamu, who facilitated talks with assembly members from Funsi North, Funsi South, and Buffiama. The team also met Wa East MP Dr. Godfred Seidu Jasaw.

Present at the Duu engagement were the Chief of Duu, Naa Justin Bayong Hogi, the Chief of Janfian, Naa Nwiituo Bakuli, the MP, the DCE, elders, and local government reps.

After discussions on the programme’s objectives, the communities agreed to participate and pledged full collaboration.

Residents said past mining firms made promises that were never fulfilled. But they expressed confidence that GoldBod, as a state institution, offers greater accountability, transparency, and long-term commitment.

Speaking for the chiefs and people, the Assembly Member for Duu called the engagement historic and timely.

“On behalf of the two Chiefs and elders of Duu community and all surrounding areas, we are very grateful and happy to hear about GoldBod’s Mining Support Programme. The people have been yearning to see something of this sort for many years,” he said.

He assured GoldBod of the communities’ cooperation to ensure success.

The Mining Support Programme is part of GoldBod’s strategy to promote responsible, community-based mining through geological surveys, technical assistance, equipment support, and structured market access.
