Road Transport Operators have dismissed reports of a 20% upward adjustment in public transport fares set to take effect on June 2, 2026, describing the move as illegal and unauthorized.

In a statement issued on Monday, June 1, the executives of the Road Transport Operators said they have not engaged the Ministry of Transport in any fare adjustment talks.

The statement was jointly signed by the General Secretary of the Ghana Private Road Transport Union (GPRTU of TUC, Ghana), Godfred Abulbire, and General Secretary of the Ghana Road Transport Coordinating Council (GRTCC), Mr. Emmanuel Ohene Yeboah.

The executives condemned the purported hike, stating that the decision by the unnamed group is illegal because it did not go through the fare adjustment protocol and procedure agreed between the Ministry of Transport and the Road Transport Operators.

They asked the public to disregard the publication “with the contempt it deserves.”

All road transport operators, unions, drivers, vehicle owners, loading point managers, and allied stakeholders have been directed to maintain existing approved fares and refrain from implementing any unilateral adjustments until further notice.

The operators said they are monitoring the next pricing window and will duly notify the public if any fare adjustment becomes necessary.
