Dozens of residents took to the streets of Cape Coast on Tuesday, June 2, 2026, to demand the release of Daniel Yussif, popularly known as “Oboy Slay,” ahead of his scheduled court appearance on Thursday, June 4.
He was arrested alongside Frederick Kumi, also known as ‘Abu Trica,’ in December 2025 following a U.S Federal indictment in the center of an alleged $8 million romance and wire fraud.
The protest, dubbed ‘Free Daniel Yussif,’ began around 2:00 p.m. and drew family members, youth, and residents who marched through the town carrying placards.

The procession ended at the Cape Coast Stadium, where leaders addressed the crowd.
Yussif, who hails from Esukyira in Cape Coast, was arrested on January 14, 2026, at Accra International Airport.

The arrest was carried out by the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) in collaboration with the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) over his alleged involvement in an internet fraud case.
His co-accused, Abu Trica, has been granted bail.
At the stadium, one of the protest leaders, Nana King, said Yussif has been in custody for nearly five months since his arrest.
He described the continued detention as unjustified and called on EOCO to release him.

Yussif’s mother, Hajara Ali, made an emotional appeal for her son’s release in an interview with Onua TV’s Kwame Kakraba.
She said her son recently underwent surgery, and his health is deteriorating in custody.
“My son is sick. A few months ago, he had surgery and needs medical care. As we speak, his health is getting worse. All I am asking is that he be granted bail,” she said.

The protest reflects growing concern among some youth in Cape Coast who are urging authorities to release Yussif pending trial.
Daniel Yussif is expected to appear before the Accra Gbese District Court on Thursday, June 4.
