A firefighter who sustained serious injuries while battling a fire at the Accra Water Works Police Barracks on Wednesday, June 3, 2026, is now in stable condition.
The officer was struck in the chest when the metallic end of a fire hose detached from the pump during operations.
Personnel from the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) had been deployed to the barracks to contain the blaze.
GNFS Public Relations Officer ADO 1 Alex King Nartey confirmed that one firefighter was injured while combating the fire.
He said crews were working tirelessly to contain the blaze despite extremely challenging conditions.
Videos from the scene showed firefighters battling flames that continued to engulf parts of the barracks.
The cause of the fire at the Accra Water Works Police Barracks is under investigation.
