President John Dramani Mahama has begun a State Visit to the Republic of Belarus aimed at deepening diplomatic ties and unlocking new partnerships in agriculture, education, and commerce.

President Mahama arrived in Minsk Friday, June 5, at the invitation of Belarusian President Aleksandr Grigorievich Lukashenko, the Presidency Communications Directorate announced.

The visit seeks to strengthen economic, agricultural, and technical cooperation between Ghana and Belarus, according to the statement signed by Spokesperson to the Minister of Government Communications, Felix Kwakye Ofosu.

Upon arrival in Minsk, President Mahama will lay a wreath at the Victory Monument to honour Soviet Army soldiers and Belarusian partisans who fought during World War II.

A high-level meeting between the two Heads of State is the central highlight of the trip.

President Mahama and Lukashenko will hold private bilateral talks, followed by an expanded diplomatic session with ministers and senior officials from both countries.

Discussions will focus on strategic partnerships in Agriculture, Education, and Commerce.

In line with his industrialisation and food security agenda, Mahama will travel to Brest, one of Belarus’ historic western cities. There, he will tour one of the region’s largest processors of milk, cheese, and baby products.

The visit is expected to facilitate knowledge sharing and potential partnerships in agro-processing.

While in Brest, the President will also visit the Brest Hero Fortress Memorial Complex to pay respects at the site of the 1941 Soviet defence against Nazi forces.

The itinerary includes a stop at Belovezhskaya Pushcha National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage site and one of Europe’s last remaining primaeval forests.

The visit outlines both countries’ commitment to environmental conservation, the statement said.

The State Visit will include the signing of at least four landmark bilateral agreements designed to foster mutual growth and institutional collaboration between Ghana and Belarus.

President Mahama is expected to depart Belarus and return to Accra on Tuesday, June 9, 2026.
