Akuapem Tech Summit 2026 organisers have deepened collaboration with Ashesi University as part of efforts to strengthen academic–industry partnerships and advance a regional innovation ecosystem.

The engagement forms part of preparations for the inaugural Akuapem Tech Summit 2026, scheduled for October 1, 2026, at the Peduase Valley Resort in Ghana’s Eastern Region.

The discussions focused on positioning Akuapem as a technology and innovation corridor, with Ashesi University expected to play a central role in bridging academia and industry through talent development, research, and entrepreneurship support.

Founder of Ashesi University, Patrick Awuah, outlined a long-term vision for the region’s transformation, describing the Akuapem Ridge as having the potential to evolve into a “Silicon Valley idea on the ridge.”

He stressed that the area already possesses key foundations for a tech ecosystem, particularly in human capital development, infrastructure, and connectivity.

He further emphasised the importance of enabling conditions such as strong municipal governance, government leadership, and supportive infrastructure to attract technology companies.

Mr. Awuah also highlighted the economic multiplier effects of developing a tech corridor, noting that the presence of technology firms would stimulate demand for retail, hospitality, housing, and other support services along the ridge.

He referenced ongoing developments at Ashesi University, including its STEM building, which is operational, and the Ashesi Leadership Centre, expected to be completed within the year, as part of efforts to strengthen innovation and leadership training.

As part of future collaboration, Mr. Awuah expressed his willingness to support the Akuapem Technology Secretariat in an advisory capacity, adding that quarterly and virtual engagements could serve as practical mechanisms for sustained collaboration between stakeholders.

The Akuapem Technology Secretariat expressed appreciation for his insights and commitment, describing the engagement as a significant step toward building a sustainable partnership with Ashesi University.

The Secretariat reaffirmed its commitment to a mutually beneficial collaboration with the university, aimed at advancing innovation, entrepreneurship, and digital transformation across the Akuapem Ridge.

The Akuapem Tech Summit 2026 is inspired by the vision of the Okuapehene, His Majesty Oseadeɛyo Nana Kwasi Akuffo III, and seeks to promote innovation, digital inclusion, youth empowerment, and sustainable regional development.

The summit is expected to convene policymakers, industry leaders, investors, academics, and diaspora partners, with about 1,000 in-person participants and a global virtual audience.
