A collision involving a diesel tanker, a truck, and a taxi at Konongo Lady Diana on Saturday, June 13, 2026, left five people injured and nearly sparked a major fire, but swift action by the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) averted disaster.

The crash occurred around 3:36pm and involved a MAN Diesel Tanker registration GN 4470-22 loaded with 54,000 litres of diesel, a DAF XF Truck GN 1591-20, and a Toyota Matrix Taxi SE 6425-14.

The exact cause of the collision is still under investigation.

GNFS rescuers from the Konongo Fire Station, led by Leading Fireman Siale Richard, reached the scene at 3:48pm.

By 4:10pm, all rescue operations were complete. No fatalities were recorded.

The impact completely damaged the tanker’s cowl, partially damaged the offside of the DAF truck, and completely wrecked the taxi.

Three males and two females sustained injuries. Four of the victims had already been rescued by bystanders and sent to Steward Hospital before the crew arrived.

Firefighters pulled the fifth victim from the wreckage and conveyed them to the same hospital in a Police pickup, GP 671.

With 54,000 litres of diesel at risk, the crew used foam concentrate to prevent ignition and salvaged the entire load, eliminating the threat of fire and environmental contamination. Officers from the Konongo MTTD assisted in securing the scene and controlling traffic.

The GNFS crew returned to station at 6:01pm after managing the incident.

The Service commended the Konongo MTTD for their support during the operation.
