Ghanaian gospel musician, Grace Ashy, has expressed disappointment over being left out of a government-sponsored trip to watch the FIFA World Cup, claiming that favouritism continues to hinder the progress of some talented individuals in the country.
Speaking in a recent interview, the singer revealed that she was not among the selected individuals chosen to travel and watch the tournament live.
“The government hasn’t selected me as part of the people going to watch the World Cup live, and my name was not included on the list,” she said.
When asked about the song she composed for the Black Stars and whether it has been receiving support, Grace Ashy suggested that favouritism often determines who gets recognition in Ghana.
“It seems this country operates on favouritism. If someone is not your favourite, no matter what they do, they won’t be allowed to shine. You can be in the same house with someone, and regardless of your efforts or the support you receive from the public, if that particular person doesn’t like you, they simply don’t,” she stated.
Despite her frustrations, the musician said she remains committed to creating songs in support of the national team because of the encouragement she receives from Ghanaians.
“When I release a song, I just let it be. The encouragement I receive from Ghanaians who call and support me is the reason I continue composing songs for the Black Stars,” she added.
