A 17-year-old final-year student of Mfantsipim Senior High School died by suicide, the Central Regional Police Command has confirmed.

The deceased, Emmanuel Arthur, was found on June 11, 2026, in an uncompleted building at Ola North, a suburb of Cape Coast. Police say a carpenter working at the site alerted authorities, leading officers to the scene.

Investigators retrieved a black backpack containing examination materials, including a Geography Paper 1 mock exam script bearing the name Emmanuel Arthur. Two mobile phones: An Android and a small ‘yam’ phone, and other personal belongings were also recovered.

Mfantsipim SHS authorities have confirmed Arthur was a final-year student of the school.

His parents were notified, and the body was released to the family for burial after a pathologist at the Cape Coast Teaching Hospital examined the remains. The building was later fumigated, police said.

The Central Regional Police Command says investigations have established the death as suicide, but the circumstances that led to it remain unknown.

Investigations are ongoing.
