2026 WASSCE: GES condemns attack on Bawku SHS teachers, vows to punish offenders

The Ghana Education Service (GES) has condemned a reported violent assault on two teachers and the destruction of property at Bawku Senior High School in the Upper East Region by some students of the school.

The incident, which occurred on Monday, June 15, 2026, is linked to the strict enforcement of examination regulations and invigilation during the ongoing WASSCE.

In a press release dated June 17, 2026, Management described the actions of the alleged students as “unacceptable, unjustifiable, and contrary to the core values of discipline, respect, and integrity that underpin education.”

GES emphasized that “attacks on teachers in the course of their official duties” constitute “a serious breach of school discipline and a threat to the safety of staff of the Service.”

In that regard, a full investigation is underway in collaboration with security agencies to identify the perpetrators, according to the Service.

It pledged that individuals found culpable will face the full rigours of the Law in accordance with the disciplinary procedures of the GES.

The release further noted that security personnel had been deployed to the school to ensure safety, while “normal academic and examination activities continue under enhanced protection arrangements.”
