The National Democratic Congress, in conjunction with the J.J. Rawlings Foundation, will hold commemorative events on Monday, June 22, 2026, to mark the 79th birthday of the party’s founder, Flt Lt Jerry John Rawlings.
The events are themed ‘From Revolution to Fourth Republic: The Rawlings Legacy.’
According to a statement signed by Deputy National Communication Officer Godwin Ako Gunn, the first event will be the naming of the party headquarters after Flt Lt Jerry John Rawlings and the unveiling of his bust at 9am.
That ceremony will be addressed by NDC leader and President John Dramani Mahama and other leading members of the party.
The second event is a lecture and exhibition at the auditorium of the Ghana Academy of Arts and Sciences near the CSIR in Accra, starting at 4pm.
Ghanaian academic and lawyer, Tsatsu Tsikata, will deliver the keynote address.
Other speakers include Dr. Akwasi Opong Fosu, former Minister for Local Government and current Board Chairman of the Ghana Investment Promotion Centre, and Kofi Totobi Quakyi, former Minister for Information and National Security.
The statement added that members of the public, party members, supporters and cadres are all invited to participate in the two events to celebrate Flt Lt Rawlings’ birthday and honour his life and legacy.
