The Ghana Red Cross Society (GRCS) in the Eastern Region has trained teachers in the Lower Manya Krobo Municipality in first aid to strengthen schools’ emergency response.
Speaking to the media at a two-day training workshop in Nauso, Eastern Regional Manager of the Ghana Red Cross Society, Emmanuel Amanor, said the initiative aims to help teachers respond to emergencies in their respective schools.
“We trained about 500 teachers on first aid so that they can compact and train their fellow teachers at their various schools, and at the same time, in case of any disaster that happens in the school, the teachers are the first contact to receive this information.
“So that they can attend to the students to rescue them before the second arrival of the medical aid comes in,” he explained.
He stated that the programme will be rolled out across all 33 districts and municipalities in the region to help save lives during emergencies or disasters in schools.
Mr. Amanor also acknowledged the Eastern Regional Education Directorate for its support in implementing the initiative across schools in the region.
