Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for Ga Central, Emmanuel Adotey Allotey, has begun distributing free school uniforms to public basic school pupils in the municipality under President John Dramani Mahama’s nationwide free uniform policy.
The distribution started Tuesday, June 23, 2026 at Anyaa M/A ‘2’ Basic School, where every pupil from Basic 1 to 6 received a complete set of uniforms.

“We are helping 18 schools in our Ga Central Municipal Assembly. By God’s grace, through His Excellency John Dramani Mahama’s ‘free school uniform policy’ for all public schools across Ghana, today, we Ga Central have received ours,” Allotey said.
The MCE disclosed that arrangements have been made with the Municipal Education Directorate to identify pupils in dire need, who will receive two sets of uniforms each.

“We have over 4,000 learners within the municipality and each and every one will get the uniform,” he assured.
Allotey expressed gratitude to President Mahama for “remembering learners in his social intervention policy” and thanked Education Minister Haruna Iddrisu for approving the initiative “to ease the burdens of parents and guardians.”

He also acknowledged the Regional Director and Municipal Director of the Ghana Education Service for organizing the distribution exercise.
Addressing the beneficiaries, the MCE urged pupils to maintain the uniforms and focus on their studies.

“I am urging all the learners who have received the uniforms to keep the uniforms very well and ensure they’re always neat. As the government has thought about you, you should also make discipline your core values, you should learn very hard to become prominent citizens,” he said.
“Among these learners are Assemblymen, MPs, Female Presidents, MCEs,” Allotey added.

The free school uniform policy is part of government interventions aimed at reducing the cost burden on parents and improving enrollment and retention in public basic schools.
