Mzbel has shared a heartbreaking account of how her sister died at Korle Bu Teaching Hospital after being referred from Ussher Clinic.
According to Mzbel, upon arrival at Korle Bu, the family was informed that there were no available beds for her sister.
She said instead of being admitted, her sister was given a plastic chair to sit on, but due to the severity of her pain, she was unable to remain seated and eventually had to lie on the bare tiled floor.
Mzbel alleged that despite her sister’s condition, her daughter was asked to purchase prescribed medications and pay for blood, which she did.
However, she claimed that even after all the required items had been provided, her sister was still not given a bed and remained on the floor until she passed away the following day.
“Even after providing all the required medicines and paying for the blood, my sister was still not given a bed. She remained on the floor until she passed away the next day,” she stated.
She further alleged that after her sister’s death, the family was still required to settle additional hospital charges and pay GH¢2,500 in mortuary fees before her body could be prepared.
“After my sister’s death, her daughter was required to pay additional hospital bills, even though my sister had not received the care she desperately needed. She was also charged GHS 2,500 in mortuary fees before her mother’s body could be prepared,” she wrote.
Mzbel also claimed that the medications and blood purchased for her sister were kept by the hospital after her death, with no refund given to the family.
