Reset Ghana Football and dissolve GFA leadership — Wayoosi urges John Mahama

Kumawood actor Wayoosi has urged President John Dramani Mahama to reform the Ghana Football Association (GFA) and review the performance of Sports Minister Kofi Adams following the Black Stars’ disappointing campaign at the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

In a video circulating on social media on Wednesday, July 8, 2026, the actor maintained that a major reason many Ghanaians elected President Mahama in the 2024 general election was his promise to reset the country through the Reset Ghana Agenda.

According to Wayoosi, that vision should not be limited to governance alone but should also be extended to Ghana’s football sector, especially the senior national team.

“The Reset Ghana Agenda should not focus on governance alone. It must also extend to Ghana football, especially the Black Stars,” he urged

Reacting to Ghana’s early exit from the tournament, Wayoosi described the Black Stars’ performance as below expectations, highlighting the team’s 1-0 defeat to Colombia in their Round of 32 match, which ended their World Cup journey.

He further accused some officials of the GFA, including President Kurt Okraku and Communications Director Henry Asante Twum, of managing the association for their own benefit rather than in the interest of Ghana football.

The actor therefore called on President Mahama to restructure the current GFA leadership and appoint a new administration capable of restoring confidence in the national team.

“Mr President, the way the Black Stars are being managed, you are the only one who can help the team return to its glory days. One of the key promises that earned you the support of Ghanaians was resetting Ghana. That reset should also cover Ghana football, particularly the Black Stars.

“Judging by the team’s performance at the World Cup, especially in the final match, it was disappointing. Some individuals have made the GFA their personal property and are the only ones benefiting from it. If possible, dismiss Kurt Okraku, Henry Asante Twum, and the entire leadership. They should all leave,” Wayoosi stated.

Beyond the GFA, Wayoosi also urged the President to review the performance of Sports Minister Kofi Adams.

He argued that if an assessment finds the minister’s performance unsatisfactory, he should equally be removed from office.

Explaining his position, Wayoosi noted that the Black Stars remain a powerful symbol of national identity and unity, capable of bringing Ghanaians together regardless of their political differences.

“The Black Stars are a symbol of national unity. They bring Ghanaians together regardless of their political affiliation, which is why we cannot sit back and watch the team continue to decline,” Wayoosi said.

He insisted that the continuous decline of the national team should not be ignored and called for urgent action to restore Ghana football to its former status.
