Alogboshie flood victim hit with GH₵6,000 morgue bill after losing family, MP intervenes

The Member of Parliament (MP) for Okaikwei North Constituency, Theresa Lardi Awuni, has stepped in to support a family reeling from tragedy after the June 29 floods claimed the lives of a wife and her three children at Alogboshie.

The floods, which killed 9 people in total in the constituency, swept through parts of Alogboshie and left several families displaced. Among the victims was Madam Amese and her three children.

According to Godwin Mawulawe, spokesperson for the bereaved family, the bodies of the mother and two children have been located at the Police Hospital morgue. The middle child is still missing.

“They had died when we found them. We went to identify their bodies at the police hospital,” Mr. Mawulawe stated.

But grief has been compounded by cost. The hospital is demanding GH₵2,000 for the embalming of each body, bringing the total to GH₵6,000 for the three. The family says it cannot afford it.

Responding to the plea, Ms. Awuni assured the family of immediate intervention.

“Please give me up to Monday God willing. We will solve this. I know it’s not easy for a man to lose his wife and all three children,” she said.
