The Ghana Meteorological Agency, (GMet), has issued a weather alert, warning of approaching thunderstorms and moderate to heavy rainfall expected to affect parts of the Northern, North East and Oti regions on Monday afternoon.
According to the agency, a rain and thunder-bearing cloud has been observed along Ghana’s northeastern border and is moving toward the affected regions.
GMet indicated that the Northern Region, particularly around Yendi and Saboba, is expected to experience the first impact between 3:00 p.m. and 5:00 p.m., after which the storm system is forecast to spread to other parts of the North East and Oti regions.
The agency added that the rainfall is likely to be accompanied by occasional strong winds.
Motorists have been advised to reduce their speed, switch on their headlights and exercise extra caution when driving on roads that are prone to flooding.
The public has also been urged to avoid sheltering under trees or staying near weak structures during periods of strong winds and to continue monitoring official updates from the Ghana Meteorological Agency as the weather situation develops.
