Mahama orders GH₵2 per litre diesel price cut to ease cost of living pressures

President John Dramani Mahama has directed a temporary GH₵2 per litre reduction in diesel prices to cushion consumers and ease inflationary pressures.

The Presidency announced on Monday, 3 August 2026, that the reduction will be implemented by lowering the regulatory margin on diesel by GHS2.00 per litre for a period of one month.

According to a statement signed by Felix Kwakye Ofosu, Spokesperson to the President and Minister for Government Communications, the directive aligns with a Cabinet decision and follows the successful fuel price intervention introduced in April 2026.

The statement said the temporary measure is intended to cushion consumers, prevent transport fare increases, contain inflationary pressures and reduce the impact of higher fuel prices on the cost of living.

The directive will take effect from Tuesday, 4 August 2026, and will remain in force for one month unless the government decides to review it earlier.

The Presidency said the government would continue to closely monitor developments in the international energy market and introduce additional policy measures where necessary to protect the interests of Ghanaians and sustain the country’s economic recovery.
