A multi-vehicle crash at Birimso Bridge has blocked the Accra-Kumasi Highway, forcing police to divert traffic through alternative routes temporarily.
The accident, which occurred at Birimso Bridge, has resulted in a complete blockage of the highway, affecting both Accra-bound and Kumasi-bound motorists.
The Eastern South Regional Police Motor Traffic and Transport Department (MTTD) team from Kibi has moved to the scene and introduced traffic management measures to ease congestion.
According to the police, vehicles travelling towards Accra are being diverted through Kibi at Nsutam, while Kumasi-bound traffic is being redirected through Apedwa.
The Ghana Police Service has urged motorists and other road users to cooperate with officers deployed at the location as efforts continue to clear the obstruction and restore normal traffic movement.
The temporary diversion took effect on Monday, 3 August 2026, following the crash, with authorities working to manage the situation and ensure public safety.
Motorists using the Accra-Kumasi corridor have been advised to exercise patience, follow instructions from traffic officers, and consider possible delays while the affected section of the highway remains under emergency management.
