The Minister for the Interior, Mohammed Mubarak Muntaka, has confirmed that GH¢124,552 in irregular salary payments to 23 Ghana Immigration Service (GIS) officers has been fully recovered and paid into the Auditor-General’s recoveries account.
According to the minister, the irregular payments involved new recruits stationed at Elubo who were upgraded to Assistant Immigration Control Officer I on July 18, 2023.
He noted, however, that the officers had been “validated for salary payments from March 2023, resulting in the irregularity identified in the 2025 Auditor-General’s reports.”
Mohammed Mubarak Muntaka made this known during his appearance before Parliament’s Public Accounts Committee (PAC) on Tuesday, October 20, 2026.
The minister assured the committee that further measures had been implemented to prevent similar occurrences in the future.
For her part, the committee’s chairperson, Abena Osei-Asare, admonished the Ministry to consider adopting the self-accounting model to help prevent such salary irregularities.
