The Driver and Vehicle Licensing Authority (DVLA) has cautioned the public against fraudulent SMS messages and online payment links being used by scammers to collect fake fines in the name of the Authority.
In a statement released on Wednesday, October 21, the DVLA said it had observed with concern the activities of fraudsters who send text messages to unsuspecting members of the public, directing them to fake platforms to pay supposed fines.
According to the Authority, the scammers send messages containing links which redirect recipients to fraudulent websites where they are asked to make payments, sometimes with claims of discounts or urgent payment deadlines.
The DVLA has therefore urged the public to disregard such messages, stressing that it does not offer discounts on fines.
It further cautioned that any SMS, website, platform or individual claiming to offer discounted DVLA fines should be treated as fraudulent.
The Authority noted that the only acceptable online payment gateway for its transactions is the Government of Ghana’s official payment platform, Ghana.gov, while its official website remains www.dvla.gov.gh.
It advised the public against clicking on suspicious links, providing personal information or making payments through unofficial platforms.
The DVLA has also encouraged individuals who receive such messages to report them to the nearest DVLA office or the appropriate law enforcement agency for further action.
It added that members of the public should verify all DVLA-related information through its official website, recognised offices and approved communication channels.
The Authority reaffirmed its commitment to protecting the public from fraudulent activities and ensuring that official transactions are conducted through secure and approved channels.
