Ghanaian actress and media personality, Xandy Kamel, has recounted the heartbreaking loss of her first son, revealing that she missed his burial because she was with her then-husband, who was celebrating his birthday on the same day.
According to Xandy, her 16-year-old son drowned in a river after writing the Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE).
Recounting the tragic incident, she explained that her son had gone to Sakumono with his friends after the examination when the family received a call informing them that he had drowned.
“We were home when we received a call that my son had drowned in the river,” she recounted.
Xandy said the family went to the scene to perform some traditional rites and were informed that her son’s body would be recovered after three days.
She further disclosed that her cousin later felt compelled to travel to Tema, where she discovered that her son’s body had been found.
“My cousin said she felt a strong urge to go to Tema, and when she got there, she discovered that my son’s body had been recovered,” she recounted.
According to the actress, her cousin called to inform her, prompting her to go and see her son’s body. However, she did not attend his burial because it coincided with her then-husband’s birthday celebration.
Reflecting on her decision, Xandy explained that she was deeply in love with her husband at the time and prioritised him, a choice she now associates with not having spent enough precious moments with her son.
“Because I was in love with my husband at the time, I prioritised his birthday celebration and, as a result, missed my son’s burial,” she revealed.
Xandy further disclosed that the same day marked the end of her marriage, explaining that the circumstances surrounding their relationship eventually made it impossible for her to continue.
