The Member of Parliament for Gomoa Central, Kwame Asare Obeng, popularly known as A Plus, has questioned the leadership of the Ghana Football Association (GFA), describing the football governing body as ineffective and disappointing.
In a Facebook post, the MP compared the recent exploits of Ghanaian musicians to the performance of the GFA under Kurt Okraku. He said Shatta Wale, Sarkodie, Stonebwoy, and Samini are making Ghana proud on their own, without government or international support, while the GFA continues to fail despite enjoying huge funding from government and FIFA.
“Look at what Shatta Wale and his Shatta Movement, as well as Sarkodie have achieved this year without government funding or backing from international organisations,” he wrote.
In contrast, he said the GFA’s record is full of scandals, favouritism in Black Stars call-ups, visa issues, alleged financial mismanagement, and constant heartbreak for fans.
The legislator did not hold back on Kurt Okraku, whom he described as his friend.
“Kurt, you are my friend, and I hold you in high regard. But tell me, how do you feel watching these individuals achieve remarkable success with limited institutional support while you and your organisation, despite the enormous resources at your disposal, continue to fail woefully?”
“You are not a useless man. Far from it! But in my view, you are presiding over an institution that has become painfully ineffective, practically useless and profoundly disappointing,” he added.
He is now calling on the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) to step in and audit the finances of the GFA. According to him, no football institution is above accountability, pointing to past FIFA investigations as an example.
“Ghanaian football does not lack talent, passion, or resources. What it desperately needs is transparency, responsible leadership, and measurable results,” he stressed.
