There is a false narrative being pushed on various social media platforms by followers of Chairman Asiedu Nketiah and some paid social media bloggers in his bid to become the flagbearer of our great party.
Their argument is that Chairman Asiedu Nketiah has suffered for the party, that he has served for 17 years, and that he has been there since the era of Chairman Rawlings till date, and therefore he deserves to lead our party in the 2028 general elections.
With all due respect, this narrative is flawed and must be thrown into the dustbin.
If long service is the criteria, what about others who have served in the same capacity?
Somebody like Dr. Samuel Ofosu Ampofo, who was appointed DCE for Fanteakwa at age 29. He has been MP, Eastern Regional Minister, Minister for Local Government, Deputy National Organizer, National Organizer, Vice National Chairman, National Chairman and now Political Advisor to the Vice President. All his life he has served the party.
What about Dr. Obed Asamoah, Prof. Kwamena Ahwoi and many others who started the journey with Chairman Rawlings and are still alive? What about the many unsung heroes who have worked immensely behind the scenes to support the party from the Rawlings era till date? By your logic of long service, can they all not be considered for flagbearer?
If you enumerate his sacrifices, why don’t you also list the enormous benefits Chairman Asiedu Nketiah has acquired from the same party you claim he suffered for?
Today, his family has benefited immensely. His son Charles Asiedu is MP for Tano South and another son is Deputy CEO at MIIF. He has risen from a party foot-soldier to become Board Chairman of the Ghana Ports and Harbours Authority (GPHA) and has held many other lucrative positions. He owns businesses and properties in Accra. Did he acquire all these in his private life as an individual? No. It was through the same NDC.
Many party members have worked and sacrificed all their lives for this party — some died as paupers and those alive are still struggling to make ends meet. So the argument that he alone has suffered is not only flawed but insulting to those loyal souls.
Let me be clear: Chairman Asiedu Nketiah is qualified to contest for the flagbearer position. No one can deny him that right. But this kind of campaign message from his followers must be discarded.
The selection of a flagbearer will NOT be based on longevity, but on competency, vision, experience, and ability to unite and win. If it were about longevity, Prof. Evans Atta Mills would never have become our leader.
Some of his followers have even started attacking H.E John Dramani Mahama and other prominent members like Hon. Kofi Totobi Quakyi and other potential flagbearers without any provocation — twisting facts to create the impression that it was Chairman Asiedu Nketiah who made President Mahama. This is creating unnecessary feuds.
Instead of his disciples telling us why Mr. Asiedu Nketiah is the best to lead our party in 2028, they have rather resorted to _Argumentum ad hominem_ — attacking personalities.
There is a current Minister, a CEO, a Board Chairman and a former National Organizer of our party who invited all constituency and regional executives and the 11 MPs in the Bono Region to the residence of the Bono Regional Minister on 7th September, 2026, and openly told them to throw their support behind Chairman Asiedu Nketiah because he will be contesting for the flagbearership. Has anyone attacked them for that?
If that open endorsement was tolerated, why then must you attack people who are simply not in support of him?
Let this warning be served: some of us will not keep mute and watch such people attack our President. If these attacks do not stop, you will definitely hear from us.
Is it compulsory that Asiedu Nketiah becomes our flagbearer? But one question I urge his followers to ask the Chairman is: Who made him National Chairman in the first place?
I wish Chairman will continue as our National Chairman, but who can stop someone who has even vowed to contest a sitting President if he attempts a third term agenda?
If you force yourself to wear a crown, nobody will worship you. It is only God who makes Kings, not humans.
When the time is right, God himself will choose a leader for us. I respect his decision and I wish him well.
