The National Anti-Illegal Mining Operations Secretariat (NAIMOS) has begun a series of community engagements in galamsey-prone areas to strengthen collaboration with local stakeholders in the fight against illegal mining.
In a statement released on Thursday, October 29, 2026, NAIMOS said the initiative is aimed at building public confidence, addressing local concerns and improving intelligence sharing to support ongoing enforcement operations.
According to NAIMOS, the engagements will bring together traditional authorities, local government officials, opinion leaders and other stakeholders to encourage collective responsibility in tackling illegal mining and its effects on the environment and livelihoods.
They also stressed that the initiative does not replace its ongoing enforcement operations but forms part of a broader and coordinated strategy being used by the sector minister, Emmanuel Armah-Kofi Buah, in accordance with President John Mahama’s vision to develop a comprehensive strategy to fight illegal mining in the country.
The action is being led by the NAIMOS Director of Operations, Colonel K. S. Appiah, alongside a team from the Secretariat, working with traditional authorities and relevant opinion leaders in selected communities.
NAIMOS further reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining decisive enforcement action while strengthening partnerships with communities and relevant institutions to ensure a coordinated and lasting response to illegal mining nationwide.
