The Chief Executive Officer of the National Entrepreneurship and Innovation Programme (NEIP), Eric Adjei, has led the distribution of 850 sewing machines to young people, women and other vulnerable groups in the fashion and garment industry in the Greater Accra Region.
The initiative, undertaken in partnership with businessman and philanthropist Alhaji Seidu Agongo, forms part of a broader national intervention to distribute 10,000 sewing machines across Ghana to strengthen entrepreneurship, promote self-employment and expand access to sustainable economic opportunities.

The first phase of the distribution represents a significant step towards providing practical support to individuals in the fashion industry, particularly those who require essential equipment to establish, sustain or expand their businesses.
The intervention is also expected to contribute to the development of Ghana’s local garment and fashion sector by enabling beneficiaries to improve their productive capacity and pursue viable business opportunities.
Strategic Partnership to Empower Ghanaian Entrepreneurs
The collaboration between NEIP and Alhaji Seidu Agongo demonstrates the importance of public-private partnerships in advancing economic empowerment and addressing the challenges facing young people, women and vulnerable groups.

By combining government-led entrepreneurship initiatives with private-sector support and philanthropy, the partnership seeks to provide beneficiaries with practical resources that can help transform vocational skills into sustainable livelihoods.
The distribution of sewing machines is intended to support beneficiaries in strengthening their businesses, improving their capacity to generate income and building greater financial independence through productive enterprise.
The initiative further reinforces the role of private individuals and business leaders in supporting national development by investing in opportunities that benefit communities and create pathways to economic participation.
Appreciation
The NEIP Chief Executive Officer, Eric Adjei, expressed profound appreciation to Alhaji Seidu Agongo for his partnership and generous contribution towards the initiative.
Mr Adjei emphasised that meaningful collaboration between government and the private sector remains essential to expanding economic opportunities and equipping young people with the resources needed to become self-reliant.

He noted that providing sewing machines and other productive assets can help remove some of the practical barriers confronting aspiring entrepreneurs, particularly those who possess vocational skills but lack the equipment required to operate independently.
He reaffirmed his commitment to building additional partnerships that will support entrepreneurship, strengthen small businesses and create opportunities for individuals who might otherwise struggle to access the resources needed to establish sustainable livelihoods.
Advancing President John Dramani Mahama’s Development Vision
The initiative aligns with the broader development vision of President John Dramani Mahama, particularly efforts to promote entrepreneurship, expand employment opportunities and support the economic empowerment of young people and vulnerable groups.
As CEO of NEIP, Eric Adjei reiterated his determination to explore innovative interventions and strategic collaborations that translate the government’s development priorities into practical opportunities for Ghanaians.
He stressed the importance of supporting individuals not only to acquire vocational skills but also to access the productive resources required to apply those skills commercially, generate income and build sustainable enterprises.
The programme reflects the broader need to strengthen the connection between skills development, access to equipment, entrepreneurship and job creation as part of efforts to promote inclusive economic growth.
Supporting Growth in Ghana’s Fashion and Garment Industry
The fashion and garment industry provides opportunities for self-employment, small-business development and value creation. Access to appropriate equipment can help practitioners improve their production capacity and build businesses capable of serving growing market demand.
Through the nationwide distribution programme, NEIP and its partner seek to provide practical assistance to beneficiaries within the sector, enabling them to pursue their entrepreneurial ambitions and improve their economic prospects.
The intervention also highlights the importance of supporting local enterprise as part of Ghana’s broader efforts to expand economic participation and encourage the growth of locally owned businesses.

Planned Distribution Of 10,000 Sewing Machines Nationwide
The distribution of 850 sewing machines in Greater Accra marks the first phase of the nationwide target of 10,000 machines.
The programme is expected to extend to other parts of the country as subsequent phases are implemented, with the broader objective of reaching more young people, women and vulnerable groups in the fashion and garment industry.
NEIP remains committed to pursuing strategic partnerships and targeted empowerment programmes that promote entrepreneurship, encourage self-employment and support the creation of decent and sustainable livelihoods.
The partnership with Alhaji Seidu Agongo underscores the potential of collective action in advancing economic empowerment and supporting national development.
Through continued collaboration with private-sector stakeholders, NEIP aims to strengthen opportunities for Ghanaian entrepreneurs and contribute to the realisation of a more inclusive and productive economy.
