Jail Jean Mensa and Deputy Commissioners over missing BVDs – Owusu

A member of the Alliance for Revolutionary Change political movement, Solomon Owusu has called for the arrest of the Chairperson of the Electoral Commission (EC), Jean Mensah and her deputies over the missing Biometric Verification Devices (BVDs).

According to him, he sees no reason why Jean Mensa is still at the helm of affairs at the commission when her predecessor, Charlotte Osei was sacked over procurement issues.

“Charlotte Osei was sacked over procurement issues, as for you, BVDs have been stolen under your watch and you are still there as the chairperson,” he said.

He therefore called for the arrest of the Chairperson of the Commission, Madam Jean Mensah and her deputies and be put into custody.

“Madam Jean Mensa and her deputies should have been rounded up and put into Nsawam by now over the missing BVDs,” he asserted on Angel Morning Show.

The Minority Caucus raised concerns about the alleged theft of BVD machines and urged the Ghana Police Service’s CID to investigate quickly, fearing it could impact the December 7, 2024, general elections. The EC later clarified in a press conference that none of its biometric verification devices were missing.

This notwithstanding, four suspects, including two staff members from the Electoral Commission Headquarters in Accra, Benjamin Fienyi (security officer) and Joseph Blankson Adumadzie (database administrator), have been charged with allegedly stealing voting devices.

The other suspects are Philip Tettey (laborer) and Clifford Yeboah (student). They have been remanded into police custody by the Dansoman Circuit Court after pleading not guilty to charges of conspiracy, stealing, and dishonestly receiving some HP and Dell laptops from the EC.
