The practice by which Ghanaians change government every eight years is retarding the country’s development, Samuel Ayeh-Paye has expressed.

According to the former New Patriotic Party (NPP) Member of Parliament for Ayensuano Constituency in the Eastern Region, the development which has almost become then a norm in the nation’s democratic practice, is a hindrance to nation-building.

Nonetheless, he is urging the public, especially eligible voters to consider their decisions during general elections.

In his submission Thursday, June 20, 2024, on the Angel Morning Show, the former MP was of the view that a shift from this norm is critical to achieving the development the country earnestly seeks to achieve.

“A country that has made it a norm for change of government every eight years is not a good practice and it won’t help. It doesn’t help countries like Ghana because we are a developing country,” he said.

Mr. Ayeh-Paye contended that extending the term of an incumbent government in office beyond just eight years should be paramount for reshaping to take place.

“S it would be very necessary to allow one political party to stay in power for long since longevity would help for the good of the country in development.”

The former lawmaker believes the NPP is the only political party Ghanaians can repost their trust in due to the good job executed by President Akufo-Addo’s administration.

“So, we plead on Ghanaians to repost their trust in us [NPP] because we remain the only political party who is capable of fixing the economy,” he urges.
