Senior Lecturer at the Department of Political Science of the University of Ghana, Dr. Kwame Asah Asante says political leaders and Ghanaians should be mindful of the country’s coexistence and the need to maintain peace going forward.

He said the general public should continue practicing and upholding peace in the country before, during, and after the upcoming 2024 general elections.

According to the astute political analyst, there’s only one Ghana and its image must be protected.

“For democracy in every country to be well practiced, its main or basic foundation is peace and that is why there is the need to also protect peace. One branch of democracy is election, and that is also why free and fair elections have always been the campaign devoid of violence and other unacceptable practices. What Ghanaians should understand is that once there is democracy without peace, all our efforts will be meaningless.

“So I urge stakeholders within our political cycles in the country to let peace reign. If someone makes contrasting remarks to your views, the best is to share your opinion as well, but fueling the issues or pulling guns should not be ideal because it is all about peace since we have no Ghana elsewhere,” he said.

That he indicated “I don’t want my Ghana, our Ghana, and your Ghana to go into such situations, so I entreat our politicians to be circumspect and moderate in their choice of words whenever they mount the podium to speak to the people.”

Dr. Asah Asante stressing the need to maintain the peace the country is currently enjoying, said countries experiencing political instability must be used as a sign of warning to political leaders, entreating them to be mature in their dealings.

“We can all attest to the consequences of political instability on countries being a victim of the phenomena and how these countries were destroyed.

“So I urge and advocate for political leaders and stakeholders to always subscribe to positive statements that align with our democratic practices,” he added.

Dr. Kwame Asah Asante’s warning came to light during the editorial segment of the ‘Yen Man Ghana Show’ aired on Angel TV every Saturday.
