A member of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and a communication team member, Ellen Ama Daaku, has blamed her inability to more than two children on the power-outages which happened under former President, John Mahama.

She revealed that the challenges she faced during the births of her two sons, especially during the “dumsor” power crisis, made her reluctant to expand her family.

Speaking on Angel Morning Show (AMS) on November 11, 2024, Daaku recounted her experiences during the births of her children in 2012 and 2015.

She noted that “dumsor,” a term for the frequent power outages during Mahama’s administration, created dire situations in the hospitals.

“In 2012, I contracted malaria because of the mosquito problem worsened by ‘dumsor,’ and when I went to give birth in 2015, the power went out during my operation. The doctors and nurses had to use their phone lights to continue the procedure,” she said.

She mentioned that many women lost their lives under such conditions, as critical healthcare was hampered by the lack of reliable electricity.

Daaku also compared her experiences with the cost of giving of birth costs, noting that free maternal care which was introduced by former President Kufour has been cancelled during Mahama’s tenure.

She emphasized that these challenges has motivated her to work harder to ensure the NPP wins the upcoming election, stating, “I want my children to benefit from free education opportunities under the NPP.”

She ended with advice to women, especially those considering voting for the NDC, urging them to think carefully about their choices if they want to ensure safer healthcare for themselves and their children.

“If you want to have a safe delivery, vote for the NPP,” she advised.
