Vacant seats saga: We won’t entertain NDC MPs over Majority status again – Sefwi Akontombra MP

Alex Djornuboah Tetteh is the Deputy Majority Leader

Deputy Majority Leader, Alex Djornuboah Tetteh has stated that the majority caucus in Parliament will not yield to the demands of the minority caucus regarding who occupies the majority seats in the chamber.

Mr. Tetteh said that although the minority caucus continues to consider itself the majority in Parliament despite the Supreme Court overruling the Speaker’s decision on the vacant seat issue, the majority will not allow any disruptions.

Speaking in a phone interview with Kwadwo Oppong Nkrumah on the Angel Morning Show on Wednesday, November 13, 2024, Mr. Tetteh noted that he expects the minority will attempt to contest the seats, potentially creating scenes.

However, Mr. Tetteh, who is also the Member of Parliament for Sefwi Akontombra in the Western North Region, firmly stated that the majority caucus would not tolerate such behavior.

“I believe that when the Speaker recalls parliament into session, the NDC would want to claim the majority seats and cause a scene but we the majority will not entertain that,” he said.

He added that the majority caucus is prepared to respect the Speaker’s orders if the House is recalled.

Mr. Tetteh also cautioned that any delay in resuming parliamentary sessions could impact the business of the next parliament in 2025, as there are pressing national issues and vital bills that need to be addressed.
